Biennial of the Americas
United
July 17, 2010
United is an interactive three-dimensional map of the Americas. Conceived specifically for the inaugural Biennial of the Americas contemporary art exhibition, The Nature of Things, curated by Paola Santoscoy. The 17-foot long monochromatic sculpture imitates the geographic landscape of thirty five nations and their respective coastlines. Geometric foam blocks create a platform inviting exhibition guests to rest, gather and engage in conversation as their bodies physically cross multiple nations and territories; providing an opportunity for unrestrained, cross-generational and cross-cultural hemispheric dialogue.
United was produced in close collaboration with two very special partner teams, DEMP Distribution in Denver, Colorado and Performix, in Blaine Minnesota. Extra-special thanks go to Pat Paiz at DEMP, and Scott Haasl at Performix. Without their steadfast support and guidance, United could not have been realized.
